Police release suspect’s name and his charges in shooting near Sacramento school

Police officials on Wednesday released the name of a man suspected of shooting at someone Tuesday morning a few blocks away from a school in north Sacramento.

Nathan Solomon of Sacramento was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. Investigators determined Solomon fired a gun at the victim after a dispute, said Officer Karl Chan, a Sacramento Police Department spokesman.

Sacramento County sheriff’s custody records indicate Solomon, 38, also was booked at the jail on felony charges of being a felon in possession of a gun and violating probation.

Chan said the victim was not struck by gunfire, but bullets did hit the victim’s vehicle. He said Solomon initially was detained after he was spotted leaving the area. He remained in custody Wednesday afternoon.

The shooting was reported shortly before 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the 100 block of Estes Way, just a few blocks west of Englewood Street and Glenwood Elementary School. Chan said the school was placed on lockdown as precaution until officers determined the area was safe.

Officers arrived at the scene and found the person who was the intended target and his vehicle with bullet holes.
