Bank robbery suspect arrested about a mile from Elk Grove crime scene, police say

Police arrested a man following a Thursday afternoon robbery at a Chase Bank branch in Elk Grove.

The suspect entered the bank, located within the shopping center at Laguna Boulevard and Bruceville Road, and handed a teller a note demanding money, according to a news release by the Elk Grove Police Department.

The teller gave the man an undisclosed amount of money and the suspect left the bank, police said.

Arriving officers got a suspect description from witnesses of the man who reportedly walked away from the scene in the direction of Laguna Boulevard, according to the news release.

Officers found a man matching the description walking on Laguna Boulevard near Laguna Springs Drive, about a mile east of the bank. Police detained and searched the man, finding the money stolen in the bank robbery.

The suspect, 40-year-old Anthony Wright of Sacramento, was arrested and booked into the Sacramento County jail on a charge of robbery. He is ineligible for bail due to a parole violation, booking logs show.
