Man sexually assaulted and threatened 5-year-old girl, Sacramento County DA says

A Sacramento County jury on Wednesday found a man guilty of sexually assaulting two girls in his family, including one who was 5 years old when he threatened to hurt her if she told anyone, prosecutors said.

Randall Slaton, 43, faces a maximum sentence of 125 years to life in prison for assaulting the two girls, the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office in a news release Thursday.

Prosecutors said Slaton began sexually assaulting the girl when she was 5 years old, and he threatened to harm her if she revealed the sexual abuse. The girl hid the abuse until she was 7 years old, because of the threats and an unstable environment at home, according to the news release.

During the sexual assault investigation, authorities discovered that Slaton molested another relative when she was 10 years old, prosecutors said.

Slaton was convicted of two counts of sodomy with a child 10 years old or younger and three counts of committing a lewd act upon a child with force, duress, menace or fear, along with sexual penetration on a child 10 years old or younger and committing a lewd act with a child younger than 14 years old.

On Thursday, Slaton remained in custody at the Sacramento County Jail. He was scheduled to return to court March 25 for his sentencing hearing.
