Police detectives looking for man armed with screwdriver in Sacramento sexual assault

Detectives are looking for a suspect armed with a screwdriver who sexually assaulted a victim Thursday afternoon in a south Sacramento neighborhood, police officials said.

The sexual assault was reported in the 7800 block of Center Parkway, in an area near an apartment complex just south of Mack Road and about a mile west of Highway 99.

Officers arrived at the scene and learned that the suspect brandished the screwdriver and then sexually assaulted the victim, according to a news release from the Sacramento Police Department. The officers canvassed the area to look for witnesses and security camera video that could be helpful in their investigation.

Crime scene investigators also were called to the scene to collect any evidence. Police described the suspect as a black man, possibly in his late teens or early 20s, with a tall and thin body.

Police officials said the investigation is in its early stages and information is limited. On Thursday night, investigators did not have any evidence to indicate Thursday’s assault was related to any other incident.

Investigators asked any witnesses with information about this sexual assault to call the police dispatch center at 916-808-5471 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at 916-443-4357. The public also can submit a confidential tip through the P3 Tips website and app. There is a reward of up to $1,000.
