Woodland police arrest two and find two loaded handguns after report of shots fired
Officers arrested two people, including an alleged gang member, and confiscated two loaded guns while investigating another report of a shooting in Woodland, the agency said.
About 11 p.m. Friday, the officers were investigating the report of possible shots fired in the 100 block of College Street, a few blocks north of Main Street, the Woodland Police Department announced on its Facebook page Wednesday afternoon. Police did not find any evidence of a shooting in the area.
But the officers spotted a suspicious car turn and leave the area, officials said, so they conducted a traffic stop for a vehicle code violation. The car was pulled over in the area of Main and East streets.
There were five people in the car, two males and three females, and two of them were on probation. The officers took the five people out of the care and conducted a probation search. They found the two loaded handguns; one of the guns was reported stolen in Woodland, according to police.
Jeremy Nguyen, 19, of Woodland was arrested on suspicion of carrying a loaded gun in a public place, being a convicted felon in possession of a gun and violating probation, along with a gang enhancement, police officials said.
Maira Perez-Villalpando, 19, also of Woodland, was arrested on suspicion of possessing a stolen gun.
Police said the other three people found in the car were released with a notice to appear in Yolo Superior Court for a charge of carrying a loaded gun in a public place.
