Man arranged to buy marijuana before holding up 2 at gunpoint, Elk Grove police say

Police officers used security camera video and a sheriff’s helicopter to find a man suspected of robbing two people at gunpoint after arranging a meeting to buy marijuana from them.

Donovan Jordan-Scott was arrested on suspicion of robbery, the Elk Grove Police Department announced on its Facebook page Monday. The armed robbery was reported about 10:15 p.m. Friday.

Officials said Jordan-Scott, 19, contacted two people on a social media app and arranged to buy marijuana from them. They met at an agreed-upon location.

Jordan-Scott brandished a gun and demanded their belongings before stealing the marijuana and cash then leaving in a vehicle, according to police.

Investigating officers were called to the scene and found security camera video from a nearby home. The video captured the suspect vehicle leaving, so officers began looking for it.

Police found a vehicle matching the suspect description parked in front of an Elk Grove home along Bungalow Way.

The officers called for a Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office helicopter to fly above the neighborhood. The helicopter’s thermal imaging camera confirmed for police that the vehicle’s engine was warm, which indicated to police the vehicle had been driven recently.

Shortly after, Jordan-Scott drove away in the vehicle. Police pulled him over and took him into custody. Police said Jordan-Scott was later positively identified as the robbery suspect.
