Man surrenders after shooting and standoff with deputies, Yolo County sheriff says
A man faces a charge of attempted murder after he reportedly shot a woman in an alleged domestic violence incident, shot at an occupied home and surrendered after an hourlong standoff with deputies, Yolo County sheriff’s officials say.
Deputies were first called to a reported shooting about 12:30 a.m. Saturday at a home in the 3600 block of County Road 18a, near the small rural town of Yolo.
A woman at the home had been shot and deputies were told that the shooting suspect, Alberto Perez, left the home in a white sedan and was heading toward the town of Esparto, according to a news release from the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies provided first aid to the injured woman at the scene. She suffered a gunshot wound to the shoulder, sheriff’s officials said. She was taken to an area hospital, where she was listed in stable condition Monday afternoon.
The deputies received reports Perez, 37, was shooting at an occupied apartment in the 1600 block of County Road 87 in Esparto, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Perez was found at the apartment complex holding a gun by his side, sheriff’s officials said. The deputies negotiated with Perez for about an hour until he surrendered.
Along with the attempted murder charge, Perez was arrested on suspicion of shooting at an inhabited home, domestic violence, assault with a deadly weapon and making criminal threats.
