Man found with BB gun on Davis bike trail cited for ‘target practice,’ police say

Police cited a Davis man Monday after finding him with a BB gun near the Putah Creek bike path, the Davis Police Department said.

Over the last week, the department received multiple reports of a person seen on the bike trail with what appeared to be a rifle. On Sunday, police issued a community advisory due to the reports.

Officers found the person and “he admitted that he had been using a BB gun to do target practice near the bike path,” police said.

The man was issued a citation for violating a municipal code which prohibits discharging a BB gun in the city limits, and the gun was taken.

“The Davis Police Department does not believe that there is anyone else responsible in these incidents and has found no evidence that an actual firearm was discharged,” the department said.
