Man accused of beating his mother and stepfather to death, Nevada County deputies say
A 60-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of killing his mother and stepfather after the elderly couple was found apparently beaten to death inside a Grass Valley home late Wednesday, Nevada County sheriff’s officials said.
Shortly before 11 p.m. Wednesday, 911 dispatchers received a call from a man at a home in the 15000 block of Greenhorn Road, the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post. The caller, who did not identify himself, told dispatchers that he needed the police to respond and hung up the phone.
The dispatchers tried calling him back several times, but nobody answered. Deputies were quickly sent to check on the caller and make sure he was OK.
Deputies arrived and were met outside the home by a man later identified as Dennis Lee Wallace of Grass Valley.
Sheriff’s officials said Wallace was sitting on a deck and appeared to be agitated. The deputies first detained Wallace, then went inside to search the home.
The deputies found two people dead inside the home. They were later identified as Wallace’s mother, Patricia Breedlove, 80, and his stepfather, Robert Breedlove, 87, both of Grass Valley, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff’s officials said the couple died from what appeared to be blunt force trauma. Authorities did not indicate whether a weapon was used in the deaths or say whether investigators had determined a motive for the homicides.
Wallace was arrested on suspicion of two counts of murder and was booked at the Nevada County Jail. He was being held Thursday afternoon without bail.
