1 dead, 4 injured in Florin shooting, Sacramento Sheriff’s officials say

A shooting near south Sacramento County’s Florin neighborhood left a man dead and four people injured late Wednesday night, sheriff’s officials said Thursday.

Deputies located four men and one boy with gunshot wounds in the area of 68th Avenue and Della Circle, arriving there shortly before 11:30 p.m. in response to reports of a shooting, according to a news release by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.

All five were transported to hospitals, where one of the men was pronounced dead. The three other men and the juvenile are expected to survive their injuries, the news release said.

Authorities “believe the shooting was targeted,” but no further information regarding injuries or potential suspects is available at this time, the Sheriff’s Office said. Witnesses are still being interviewed, authorities said.

The incident marks the third shooting with multiple victims reported by law enforcement in the area since Saturday evening, when four people were injured and another was killed in a house party on Gardendale Road in the Meadowview area, according to the Sacramento Police Department.

The Sheriff’s Office on also reported an early-morning shooting Wednesday on Stacy Avenue, off of Stockton Boulevard, that left one man dead and another injured.

In total, the three incidents have left three dead and nine hurt, and no arrests have been announced or suspect descriptions released for any of the shootings.

All three incidents happened in south Sacramento County, within about a three-mile radius of Highway 99 and Florin Road. It is unknown whether the incidents are connected, but the Sheriff’s Office described both shootings in its jurisdiction as “targeted,” and the Police Department described Saturday’s shooting as an “isolated incident,” with no further threat to the public.

The victim in Saturday’s shooting on Gardendale Road has been identified by the coroner’s office as 19-year-old Joseph Michael Almanza of Sacramento. The identities of the victims in Wednesday’s two shootings have not yet been released by the coroner.

Anyone with information about the Della Circle shooting is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 916-874-5115 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at 916-443-4357.
