CHP looks for pickup that struck pedestrian in a fatal hit-and-run in Sacramento area

The California Highway Patrol on Monday is looking for the driver of a pickup that struck a pedestrian who died shortly after a hit-and-run Sunday night near the border of Sacramento and Arden Arcade.

About 9 p.m. Sunday, the CHP received a report of a vehicle that had struck a pedestrian in the eastbound lanes of El Camino Avenue, just west of Howe Avenue.

A 50-year-old man from Hemet was hit by the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene by firefighters, according to a CHP news release. His will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office once his family has been properly notified.

CHP officers arrived and learned that the pedestrian was walking in a southerly direction through El Camino’s eastbound lanes, when he was struck by a silver Dodge pickup truck heading east.

The CHP said the Dodge left the area and was last seen heading south on Howe from El Camino. Witnesses remained at the scene, and the CHP was investigating the cause of the collision.

Investigators at the North Sacramento Area CHP office were looking for the pickup, possibly a RAM 1500, which appeared to be a 2013 to 2018 model. The CHP said the pickup truck is believed to have damage on its front passenger side near the headlight and grille area.

The CHP asked anyone who witnessed this fatal hit-and-run or has additional information about the pickup to call Officer A.J. McTaggart at 916-348-2317.
