CHP continues to look for hit-and-run driver who crashed car into Sacramento-area home
The California Highway Patrol on Friday continued to look for a driver who was reportedly speeding before crashing a car into a Rio Linda home Thursday night and running away.
Investigating officers had not positively identified the hit-and-run suspect, but they were following up on leads, said Officer Greg Zumstein, a spokesman for the CHP North Sacramento Office.
The crash occurred about 8 p.m. at the home in the 6500 block of Sunview Way, a few blocks north of Elkhorn Boulevard. A woman was inside the home when the crash occurred, but Zumstein said no injuries were reported.
The suspect left behind a black Mustang at the crash site. Zumstein said the woman was able to stay at the home overnight.
He said speeding was definitely a factor in the incident, but officers were still trying to determine what exactly led to the crash. A witness told the CHP that the suspect was driving the Mustang recklessly and possibly “spinning donuts” in the road before the crash, according to Zumstein.
There was no indication Friday that other vehicles were involved in the crash, Zumstein said. There also were no containers of alcohol found in the Mustang, so officers did not suspect alcohol was a factor in the crash.
But Zumstein said officers will be able to determine the circumstances that led to the crash once they speak with the driver who ran from the scene.
