Driver survives after car is torn in half in Orangevale crash, CHP East Sacramento says
A driver in Sacramento County survived what could have been a gruesome crash Tuesday when he lost control of his car, which hit a tree and was sliced in half before hitting another vehicle, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The crash was reported about 11:10 a.m. on Madison Avenue, east of Winding Oak Drive in Orangevale, according to the CHP East Sacramento office.
Witnesses told the CHP they spotted a gray Infiniti coupe heading east on Madison at a high rate of speed as it was raining. The CHP said unsafe speed and the wet road caused the Infiniti’s driver to lose control of the car, which veered to the left.
The car’s right side struck the tree in the raised center median. The car was “cut in half due to the sheer force of the impact,” CHP officials said.
The two segments of the torn car continued onto Madison’s westbound lanes before colliding with a Subaru, the CHP reported.
The CHP released photos of the crash scene that appeared to show the car’s back end came to rest in front of the Subaru, while the car’s front end came to rest several yards down the street.
The Infiniti’s driver suffered minor injuries in the crash, and he was taken by ambulance to a hospital for treatment, the CHP said. A driver and a passenger in the Subaru did not suffer any injuries.
“We can’t tell you enough, please slow down and drive safely, especially when it is raining or the roadway is wet,” CHP officials wrote in a Facebook post about the crash. “Due to the high rate of speed involved in this collision, the outcome could have easily changed to the involved parties sustaining fatal injuries.”
