Police release photos of vehicle in Rancho Cordova hit-and-run that killed pedestrian
Investigators say an unidentified and wanted suspect stopped at a gas station not long after he hit a pedestrian with a vehicle in a fatal Rancho Cordova hit-and-run.
The Rancho Cordova Police Department on Friday afternoon released images from a security camera showing the unknown person and the vehicle that struck the pedestrian about 10:15 p.m. Nov. 8 at Sunrise Boulevard and Trinity River Drive.
Investigators believe the vehicle is a 1995 to 2005 Nissan Pathfinder or a similar model, such as an Infiniti QX4. Police said the vehicle was black or otherwise dark in color and did not have license plates attached.
The Police Department described the vehicle as poorly maintained with damage on its front, passenger side, corner panel and the headlight, along with a defective rear passenger side brake light. The vehicle’s rear passenger side tire appeared to be a spare tire with a rim different from those on the other three tires.
After hitting the pedestrian, the vehicle headed west on Coloma Road to Folsom Boulevard, before heading west on Folsom to Bradshaw Road, where the vehicle entered the westbound lanes of Highway 50, according to police.
Before entering the highway, the driver stopped the sport utility vehicle at 10:30 p.m. at a gas station on the northwest corner of Folsom and Routier Road, police said.
Police described the driver as a man standing about 5 feet, 11 inches to 6-1, with a medium build and weighing about 180 to 230 pounds. Police said the man had full facial hair, including a goatee and a mustache, and was wearing dark pants with a sweatshirt and possibly a shirt with a collar.
A 911 caller had reported seeing an unresponsive man on the street. Officers arrived and found the man with “significant trauma to his body,” police said. Moments later, medics arrived and pronounced the man dead at the scene.
As of Friday evening, the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office had not yet released the man’s name. The Coroner’s Office will release the identity once family has been properly notified.
Investigators asked anyone with information about the driver or the vehicle to call Rancho Cordova Det. Gouveiawith at 916-875-9623 or the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office at 916-874-5115. The Sheriff’s Office is contracted to provide police services for Rancho Cordova.
