An Auburn man suspected of stabbing two people at the Auburn Public Library in 2019 was convicted by a jury last month and is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 22, the Placer County District Attorney’s Office said Monday.

On Dec. 10, 2019, Opada entered the Auburn Public Library and stabbed a man sitting at a computer, along with another victim, The Bee reported at the time. Two people were transported to the hospital in critical condition.

Opada fled the scene. After an “intensive manhunt,” he was arrested later that night by Auburn Police, the district attorney’s office said.

He was held without bail and did not enter a plea. Prosecutors said at the time that the attack was premeditated by not provoked, KCRA reported.

Opada is scheduled to be sentence at 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 22 in Department 31 of the Placer County Superior Court. The sentencing is open to the public.
