Sacramento coroner identifies Citrus Heights woman; sister is accused of murdering her
Sacramento County officials released the name of a Citrus Heights woman found dead Tuesday morning in the North Highlands home of her sister, who is accused of murder.
Susan Marquette, 62, was found dead at the home in the 7300 block of Rutherford Way, according to the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.
The Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office has charged Marquette’s sister, Sandra Lee Marquette, 59, of North Highlands, with murder. Marquette was arraigned in Sacramento Superior Court Thursday afternoon. A criminal complaint filed against Marquette does not include any enhancements to the murder charge, or any indication that a weapon was used in her sister’s death.
The defendant remained in custody Friday at the Sacramento County Jail, where she was being held without bail. She is scheduled to return to court Jan. 27.
About 8:15 a.m. Tuesday, deputies were called to assist medics from the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District at the Rutherford Way home, just east of Watt Avenue.
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said a caller told dispatchers he had gone to his sister-in-law’s home to look for his wife, later identified as Susan Marquette, who had not returned from a visit. The husband said he found her unresponsive inside the home, according to a sheriff’s news release.
Deputies arrived and found the man’s wife with “extensive physical trauma and obviously deceased,” according to the news release. Sheriff’s officials said deputies determined the suspect was the victim’s sister, who was identified as Sandra Marquette.
The deputies learned the sister had left the home in a vehicle before they arrived. A short time later, deputies found her in the vehicle near the intersection of Jackson Street and Madison Avenue in North Highlands where she was taken into custody without further incident.
