Police tape at crime scene

Sacramento police officers were investigating a shooting that injured a man Friday afternoon near a South Oak Park church, where a funeral was being held.

The shooting was reported shortly after 1:30 p.m. in the 3900 block of 14th Avenue near the St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, a few blocks east of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

Officers arrived at the scene and found the man with at least one non-life-threatening gunshot wound, said Sgt. Zach Eaton, a Sacramento Police Department spokesman. There were no other injuries reported.

Eaton said the circumstances that led to the shooting were still under investigation, but the shooting appeared to be an isolated incident based on preliminary information. He said officers were still at the scene about 3:30 p.m. Friday conducting their preliminary investigation, and there was no further information about the shooting available.
