Nevada County man caught trying to steal construction equipment, Grass Valley police say
Officers responding to a report from a neighbor Thursday night found a Nevada County man trying to steal a skid steer from a housing development construction site in Grass Valley, police said.
About 7:15 p.m., the neighbor called dispatchers to report a suspicious vehicle entering the construction site along Ridge Road, the Grass Valley Police Department announced Friday in a Facebook post.
Police said officers arrived at the construction site and found the theft suspect, later identified as Samuel Adams, “actively stealing” the skid steer. The Police Department released photos of the scene, showing the skid steer had already been loaded onto a trailer hitched to a pickup.
A skid steer is a smaller piece of construction equipment with either four wheels or two tracks used primarily for digging on construction and landscaping jobs. The skid steer at the Grass Valley construction site had two tracks.
Officers also found Adams in possession of a loaded semi-automatic pistol and what was believed to be a small amount of methamphetamine, police said. Adams on Friday evening remained in custody at the Nevada County Jail.
