Sheriff detectives arrest Sacramento school teacher accused of lewd acts with children

Child abuse detectives arrested a Sacramento City Unified School District third-grade teacher accused of committing lewd acts with children over a two-year period.

Enrique Rodriguez Valladares, 53, of Sacramento County was arrested on suspicion of eight felony counts of committing lewd and lascivious acts with a child younger that 14 years old, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office announced in a news release Monday afternoon.

Valladares also faces one misdemeanor count of annoying or molesting a child younger than 18, according to Sacramento Superior Court records. Valladares remained in custody Monday afternoon at the Sacramento County Jail, where he was being held in lieu of $1 million bail. He is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday afternoon for his arraignment hearing.

The Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office on Dec. 15 filed a criminal complaint against Valladares, according to court records. Sheriff’s officials said a warrant was issued for his arrest, and child abuse detectives coordinated Valladares’ defense attorney to have his client turn himself in. Valladares was booked at the jail Friday night.

Valladares worked as a teacher at Bowling Green Chacon Language and Science Academy, and there are “multiple victims” stemming from alleged misconduct that occurred from August 2017 through June 2019, according to the sheriff’s news release.

The school district is aware of the investigation and Valladares’ arrest, said Al Goldberg, communications manager for Sacramento City Unified.

“The District cannot provide detailed comments related to ongoing personnel matters, but can confirm that the teacher has not worked at a school in the district since Sac City Unified became aware of the allegations and has actively cooperated with investigators in this case,” Goldberg wrote in an email to The Sacramento Bee. “The District remains horrified by the charges of this case and is committed to ensuring that any student who was victimized receives appropriate supportive services.”

Detectives asked anyone with information relevant to this investigation to call the Sheriff’s Office Child Abuse Bureau at 916-874-5191 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at 916-443-4357. Tips can also be submitted confidentially by calling 916-874-8477 or by filling out the Sheriff’s Office online tip form.
