Missing elderly Northern California man found dead in southern Sacramento County

A statewide search for a Northern California man missing for nearly a week ended over the weekend when authorities found him dead near his vehicle in a remote area of southern Sacramento County.

Joseph Marsiano, 92, of Redding, was found Saturday in the Tyler Island area, south of Walnut Grove in the Delta. The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office is investigating Marsiano’s death, the Redding Police Department announced Monday.

The Police Department said the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will conduct an autopsy, and there were no further details about his death to release.

Marsiano, 92, was last seen about 10 a.m. Dec. 12, driving a white 1999 Buick LeSabre. Police said Marsiano’s body was found near his vehicle.

The day after his disappearance, the California Highway Patrol issued a “Silver Alert” to help find Marsiano in Shasta, Sacramento, Yolo, Tehama, Glenn, Colusa and San Joaquin counties. The CHP expanded that alert statewide on Friday morning.

Investigators asked anyone with information about this missing person investigation to call the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office at 916-874-5115.
