Authorities release name of Carmichael man fatally shot New Year’s Day in south Sacramento
Officials have released the name of a Carmichael man who was killed in a shooting on New Year’s Day in a south Sacramento neighborhood.
Dalonnie Lance Wyatt-Surgeon, 26, was shot in front of a home in the 7300 block of Berna Way, according to the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.
Shortly before 5 p.m. Saturday, deputies were called to the scene on Berna Way for a report of a shooting that had just occurred in the residential neighborhood just west of Highway 99 and north of Orange Avenue. A caller told dispatchers there was a man down on the street, according to a news release from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies arrived and found the injured man, later identified as Wyatt-Surgeon, suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Sheriff’s officials said deputies performed life-saving measures on the injured man as paramedics responded.
The medics placed Wyatt-Surgeon on ambulance, but he died from his injuries on the way to a hospital.
Sheriff’s officials said the preliminary investigation leads detectives to believe the fatal shooting was “an isolated incident.”
