California Highway Patrol officers last week arrested a man suspected of throwing weights at the state Capitol in Sacramento, smashing a few windows before he was taken into custody.

Eric Spies, 30, was arrested on suspicion of committing felony vandalism and booked at the Sacramento County Main Jail, according to a news release from the CHP’s Capitol Protection Services. Spies’ city of residence was not available.

The incident occurred about 12:45 p.m. Thursday in downtown Sacramento. The CHP said the suspect, later identified as Spies, approached the north side of the Capitol and threw several objects at the building.

Officers later determined the objects thrown were weights, similar to those used in a weighted workout vest. In all, four windows were broken, the CHP said.

Several CHP officers responded and detained Spies before he was arrested. The CHP said Spies did not resist as he was taken into custody. There were no reported injuries.
