Deputies arrested a Sutter County man suspected of trying to sell on Craigslist $2,000 worth of duck decoys and hunting equipment stolen from Placer County, sheriff’s officials said.

Chris Aaberg, 49, of Pleasant Grove was arrested on suspicion of grand theft, receiving stolen property and violating parole, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office announced Wednesday on social media.

The Sheriff’s Office first learned of the theft last week. On Friday, deputies were called to the Lincoln area for a report of the stolen duck decoys and hunting equipment.

Sheriff’s officials said the theft victims had found their stolen items for sale on Craigslist and had arranged a meeting with the seller. The victims then called the Sheriff’s Office to report the theft.

Deputies drove to the area where the seller planned to meet the theft victims. Sheriff’s officials said the deputies spoke with the seller, later identified as Aaberg, and determined he was in possession of the stolen property. The deputies recovered the stolen duck decoys and hunting equipment.

“As a reminder we highly recommend victims do not confront suspects for their safety,” sheriff’s officials said in social media posts. “Please call your local law enforcement agency and let the cops do their job.”
