Sacramento police have named a suspect in the January shooting that left one man dead in East Del Paso Heights, on the 3700 block of Dayton Street.

Following an investigation of the shooting, Devonte Lee White, 29, who had been in jail custody since Feb. 2, was booked on suspicion of homicide Feb. 24 and remains held without bail in Sacramento County Main Jail, authorities said in a news release.

White was initially arrested for being a felon in possession of a weapon. Officers Friday declined to comment on his prior arrest in Sacramento or his conviction stemming from San Diego County, citing the ongoing investigation.

The shooting occurred Jan. 25, south of Grand Avenue, where officers found a man suffering from a serious gunshot wound. He was transported to a hospital where he later died. Officials identified the victim as Matthew Salas-Keen, 30, a Sacramento man.

White is expected to appear in court Monday.
