Heavy police presence in Sacramento neighborhood as officers investigate shooting

There was a heavy police presence Friday afternoon in a Sacramento neighborhood as officers investigated a shooting that injured a man near Ninos Park.

The shooting was reported about 2:40 p.m. in the 700 block of Northfield Drive, just south of West El Camino Avenue in a River Gardens residential neighborhood near South Natomas.

Officers arrived at the scene and found the man suffering from at least one gunshot wound, according to the Sacramento Police Department. Police said the injured man was taken to a hospital in stable condition.

About 3:30 p.m., a heavy police presence remained at the scene while officers investigated the shooting.

Police radio traffic indicated officers were in the area looking for a possible suspect. A police helicopter was circling above with officers telling residents to go inside. An armored police SWAT team vehicle was moved into the area as the shooting investigation continued.
