Placer County woman dies after car crash into Sacramento River in Yolo County, CHP says
A Placer County woman died in a single-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon in Yolo County after her car went off a rural road and became submerged in the Sacramento River, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The fatal crash occurred about 2:30 p.m. along County Road 141 and South River Road just south of Clarksburg, the CHP Woodland Area Office announced in a news release Wednesday morning. Taylor Smith, 24, of Roseville died in Tuesday’s crash, according to the Yolo County Coroner’s Office.
The CHP said Smith was heading east in a 2016 Honda sedan on the county road and approaching the T-intersection with River Road, which sits atop the river levee.
The Honda continued straight through the intersection for an unknown reason and crashed into a guardrail on the east shoulder of River Road, according to the CHP.
The car continued moving down the embankment before it became completely submerged in the river, the CHP said. Smith died from her injuries. There were no other people in the car.
The CHP said it was unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor in this fatal crash.
