Police look for man peering into windows of downtown Sacramento homes
Patrol officers have been assigned to look for an unidentified man who has been peering into the windows of homes in the downtown Sacramento area in recent weeks.
Investigators believe one man has led to several reports of a someone looking into the windows of homes, the Sacramento Police Department announced Friday afternoon in a news release.
Police described the suspect as a man with a thin body wearing a hooded sweatshirt, knitted hat, surgical mask, track pants and shoes. All items of clothing were described as “dark-colored.”
Security camera video shows the suspect appears to have a shaved head and was wearing a blue shirt, police said.
Detectives were investigating the reported incidents and have found evidence related to the investigation, according to the Police Department.
The department also has assigned patrol officers in the downtown area overnight “whose sole focus will be preventing these types of incidents,” police said.
The Police Department shared some simple safety tips for residents:
▪ Use a door viewer before opening your door. Always demand identification from strangers, including repair or sales people.
▪ Always lock your home before leaving and don’t hide your house keys anywhere outdoors.
▪ Have keys ready in your hand to use when you return home.
▪ Use interior and exterior lighting at all times.
▪ Shred credit card offers and bank statements before throwing them away if you do not plan to use them.
▪ Hide or destroy boxes from expensive purchases.
▪ Do not answer personal questions about your home such as the type of alarm or daytime occupancy.
▪ Do not let strangers in your home, including to use the bathroom or phone.
▪ Remove a criminal’s cover by keeping hedges and trees trimmed.
▪ If you see something, say something to keep your neighbors safe and help police investigate and prevent crimes.
