Detectives have arrested a suspect in the shooting of a man who was found dead last week by medics responding to a call for help at a Sacramento motel.

Joseph Miguel Jimenez, 21, was arrested on suspicion of homicide last week, the Sacramento Police Department announced Monday in an update on social media. Police said detectives identified Jimenez as the suspect, obtained an arrest warrant for him and arrested him Friday in Vallejo.

Jimenez was booked Friday evening at the Sacramento County Main Jail, where he remained in custody Tuesday. Along with the homicide charge, Jimenez faces a charge of violating parole. He was being held without bail.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office has not yet released the name of the man killed in last week’s shooting. Officials will release his name after his family has been notified.

At 11:25 a.m. Sept. 14, officers were called to the Executive Inn and Suites in the 200 block of Bannon Street, just south of Richards Boulevard and east of Interstate 5 in the city’s River District.

Medics from the Sacramento Fire Department had responded to the motel for a medical aid call and found the man dead with at least one gunshot wound, according to a police news release.

Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators took over the investigation, canvassing the area for evidence and witnesses. The Police Department has not released any details about what might have led to the man’s shooting death.
