Pedestrian killed in hit-and-run on Fruitridge Road. Sacramento police investigating

A pedestrian was killed Thursday morning in a hit-and-run near a busy intersection in Sacramento’s Colonial Village neighborhood, police said.

Officers responded just before 6:20 a.m. to reports of a pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle near the 8000 block of Fruitridge Road, just west of Power Inn Road, the Sacramento Police Department said in a news release.

Arriving officers located a man with major injuries, according to the news release. He was transported by Sacramento Fire Department personnel to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead later Thursday morning.

Detectives and crime scene investigators have responded to the scene, according to the Police Department.

Eastbound traffic was closed on Power Inn Road at Fruitridge Road due to the crash investigation, authorities said in a social media post just after 8:30 a.m.

No suspect or suspect vehicle information was immediately available, police said.

The victim’s identity will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office pending notification of family.
