El Dorado deputies shoot, kill armed suspect during warrant search in Placerville
One person is dead Wednesday after El Dorado County sheriff’s deputies serving a search warrant in Placerville encountered someone who appeared to be holding a gun.
The fatal shooting occurred around noon at a home in the area of Baco Drive and Blairs Lane. The deputies were at the home serving a search warrant in a narcotics investigation when one person came to the door with what appeared to be a firearm, according to the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff’s officials said deputies were involved in the shooting, and the person with the firearm was confirmed dead.
About 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, authorities had the home surrounded. But sheriff’s officials said they do not believe there are wanted people outside of the perimeter. All sheriff’s personnel were accounted for and uninjured.
At 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, the Sheriff’s Office announced that a SWAT team had searched the home and no one else was found inside.
The Sheriff’s Office has not released any information about the person fatally shot by deputies.
The shooting remained under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office, along with the El Dorado County District Attorney’s Office, the Placerville Police Department and the South Lake Tahoe Police Department.
“The goal of the Critical Incident Protocol is to help assure that such cases are thoroughly and fairly investigated,” sheriff’s officials said in an updated social media post. “The investigation into this (shooting) will be lengthy, and it is likely that law enforcement presence will be seen in the area all night.”
Authorities were stopping vehicle traffic on Baco Drive, but residents who live on that street were allowed to return home.
