Sacramento police arrest suspect, 39-year-old Woodland woman, in deadly August shooting
The Sacramento Police Department made an arrest Wednesday evening for in connection an August shooting that left one man dead in North Sacramento.
According to a Police Department statement, Helen Burton, a 39-year-old Woodland resident, was arrested on homicide-related charges Wednesday, and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail.
Police had been looking for the suspect since Aug. 2, when Jonas Marice Calhoun, 30, was found with one gunshot wound in the 2500 block of Altos Avenue in Old North Sacramento, near the Sacramento Northern Bike Trail between Altos and Traction avenues.
First responders from the Sacramento Fire Department attempted to treat Calhoun’s wound on the scene, but he later died in the hospital. Calhoun was a father of five children, and though he had a checkered past, family members remembered him as a loving father trying to improve himself.
“He had so much family, so much family,” his mother, Sharaine Booker, told The Sacramento Bee in August.
“He was just a loving, caring person… He just had that little dimple inside his face, his cheek, and that’s all you see.”
According to the Police Department, the Sacramento Sheriff’s Office Special Enforcement Detail, its SWAT team, helped with the investigation and Burton’s apprehension.
