Police tape at crime scene

A Gilroy man was arrested Sunday night on suspicion of attempted homicide in Amador County.

Police received a call around 5:46 p.m. of a man acting strange and claiming to be the “Messiah,” according to a news release from the Amador County Sheriff’s office. Deputies arrived at the scene and found paramedics treating a person stabbed multiple times, including in the head.

A family member of the victim informed police there was camera footage of the stabbing. After viewing the footage, police say they determined the suspect was Brandon Townsend, 29.

Family members helped authorities track Townsend’s location through his phone, authorities reported. He was soon located by San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office deputies and led them on a car pursuit.

Deputies ultimately arrested Townsend for attempted homicide, possession of a controlled substance and an arrest warrant for robbery.
