A Southern California man is in Sacramento County custody after he was arrested at the end of a pursuit late Tuesday.

The incident began with a south Sacramento vehicle stop, said the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies were called to assist Sacramento police with the stop. The driver, later identified as a 28-year-old from Long Beach, told officers he was on probation and when asked to step out of his car, he sped away, the Sheriff’s Office said.

The pursuing police and deputies were soon joined by Elk Grove police, who used spike strips to stop the car, and the chase appeared to come to an end. But the man ditched his vehicle and fled again before being stopped by a sheriff’s K-9 officer and was arrested by deputies Authorities later learned the car was stolen, sheriff’s officials said.

The man was booked early Wednesday into Sacramento County Main Jail on suspicion of felony auto theft and receiving stolen property, evading a peace officer and resisting arrest and is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned on the charges Friday in Sacramento Superior Court.
