Carmichael crash leaves 1 dead, 1 injured after motorist runs red light, CHP says

Roadway fatality

A driver was killed Saturday after authorities said he ran a red light in Carmichael, colliding with another vehicle.

The man, whom California Highway Patrol identified only as a male in his 30s driving a sedan, ran a red light on Manzanita Avenue at Madison Avenue about 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, said CHP North Sacramento spokesman Officer Justin Fetterly.

On Sunday, the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office identified the man as Masoud Esmailpour, 37, of Carmichael.

The motorist collided with a van, which was driven by a man in his 20s, according to CHP.

The van driver was transported from the scene and treated for minor injuries.
