Placer sheriff’s explosive team investigates suspicious device in Granite Bay

Police tape at crime scene

Residents in several Granite Bay homes were told to shelter in place Wednesday as Placer County sheriff’s explosive experts inspected a suspicious device found in the residential neighborhood just west of Folsom Lake.

The suspicious device was spotted along Hidden Lakes Drive and reported shortly before 10 a.m. Wednesday, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office announced shortly before 11:30 a.m. in social media posts.

The sheriff’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team was then called in to assess the situation.

Sheriff’s officials said residents in eight nearby homes were told to shelter in place for safety reasons. The entrance to Hidden Lakes Estates from Douglas Boulevard was temporarily closed while the explosives team conducts its investigation.

Shortly after 11:30 a.m., the Sheriff’s Office announced that the explosives team had safely removed the suspicious device. The team and an explosive-detecting dog searched the area, and sheriff’s officials said they “determined there are no remaining threats and the shelter in place has been lifted.”

Authorities reopened Douglas Boulevard to vehicle traffic, along with the entrance to Hidden Lakes Estates. The Sheriff’s Office did not release any further details about the incident.
