A party promoted online that drew many underage attendees Friday night to a Folsom parking garage led to a chase in which a minor was found driving a fleeing car with other minors, opened alcoholic beverages and a loaded handgun, police said.

A “concerned citizen” tipped off authorities after learning about the planned party, the Folsom Police Department announced Monday in a news release.

Police said the party was organized by a group of minors who were promoting the event online. Organizers rapidly changed locations from Rancho Cordova to Cameron Park, before the party moved to the Leidesdorff Street parking garage in Folsom’s historic district.

Officers monitored the area and deterred more than 50 vehicles from joining the party. Police said this prevented “what could have become a dangerous gathering.”

One police officer tried to pull over a vehicle headed to the parking garage, but the vehicle did not stop. Police said a short vehicle chase ensued. The fleeing vehicle stopped nearby.

Police said the underage driver had a 9 mm handgun in their waistband, along with other minors and opened containers of alcohol found in the vehicle. The driver was arrested on charges of unlawful gun possession and evading police and booked at the Sacramento County Juvenile Hall.

The Police Department did not release any further details about the minors found in the fleeing vehicle.
