Man, dog killed in hit-and-run outside Home Depot in Sacramento County

hit and run fatality

A man was killed, along with his dog, after being struck by a car early Wednesday outside a Home Depot in Antelope. The driver fled the scene, and the California Highway Patrol is investigating.

Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District personnel responded at 4:30 a.m. to the hit-and-run incident outside the store on the 5800 block of Antelope Road, according to Metro Fire spokesperson Capt. Mark Nunez.

The man — identified by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office as 49-year-old Kenneth Eugene Middleton Jr. — was walking a dog when struck, authorities said.

According to Officer Justin Fetterly, a spokesperson for the California Highway Patrol’s North Sacramento office, the motorist behind the wheel parked the vehicle after striking the man not far from the intersection of Antelope and Roseville Road and fled on foot.

Authorities said the man was pronounced dead at the scene; Nunez said the dog also died from injuries suffered in the collision.

CHP investigators are now looking for the driver, though a suspect description was not available.
