Folsom police investigating homicide at bar that left Fair Oaks man, 63, dead
Folsom police detectives are investigating a possible homicide after a 63-year-old Fair Oaks man died Saturday following a reported altercation at a bar in the city’s historic district.
Folsom officers responded to a medical call at the City Slickers bar on the 700 block of Gold Lake Drive around 3:40 p.m., according to department spokesperson Officer Deidre McAuliff. The incident escalated into a criminal investigation but officials declined to release details on what led to the man’s death, citing an active investigation. The Folsom police logs for the day do not list a call for service on Gold Lake or the nearby Lake Natoma waterfront.
However, police dispatch audio reviewed by The Sacramento Bee indicated that a physical confrontation occurred between the victim and a bar employee before police arrived. Responding officers reported that bar staff were not cooperative during the initial response, according to the dispatch.
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased as James Douglas Caddy and classified the death as a homicide, making it the city’s first this year.
City Slickers was hosting a fundraiser Saturday afternoon for an employee who had recently been injured in a motorcycle crash, according to a post on the bar’s Facebook page. “We are fundraising to support him through this time,” the post read. “We will be putting on a raffle, food, drinks and a good time.”
When reached Tuesday, an employee at City Slickers declined to comment and referred all inquiries to management, who were not immediately available.
City Slickers, which first opened in 1994, moved to its Gold Lake Drive location in 2018 following an eviction over lease payments at a property on Natoma Street, according to the Sacramento Business Journal. In 2010, a 44-year-old Sacramento man was killed following a hit-and-run in the bar’s parking lot, shortly after a reported altercation inside the Natoma Street location.
Anyone with information related to Saturday’s incident are urged to contact the Folsom Police Department at 916-355-7231 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at 916-443-4357.
