A man who allegedly broke into a North Highlands home early Monday remained inside for about an hour before deputies took him into custody, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.

The break-in was reported on the 3300 block of Sunnyview Lane, according to a social media post by the Sheriff’s Office. Three residents returned home around 8 a.m. to find the intruder, who claimed to have a gun, inside the house, said Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Sgt. Amar Gandhi. The residents escaped unharmed.

Deputies — including a K-9 unit and drone team — responded to the scene and attempted to negotiate a peaceful surrender, the Sheriff’s Office wrote in an earlier X post.

The man refused to exit initially but was detained by 9:14 a.m., deputies said.

The suspect is expected to be booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail following a medical evaluation, the Sheriff’s Office said.
