A man died after he was found seriously wounded in an assault early Monday near the Central Oak Park neighborhood in Sacramento.

The assault was reported about 1:30 a.m. along the 3000 block of Stockton Boulevard just south of Broadway.

Officers arrived at the scene and found the man with “traumatic injuries” and began life-saving measures until medics arrived, said Officer Allison Smith, a spokesperson for the Sacramento Police Department.

The wounded man was taken by ambulance to a hospital were he was pronounced dead. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release his name and age after his family has been notified.

Homicide detectives and crimes scene investigators took over the investigation, collecting evidence at the scene and questioning witnesses. The police spokesperson on Monday afternoon said the department did not have a suspect description to release.

Police officials did not release any further details about the investigation, including the manner of death.
