Loomis woman sentenced for impersonating officials, illegally shipping weed
A Placer County woman who forfeited cash and luxury goods for her role in an illegal marijuana distribution scheme was sentenced in federal court in Sacramento on Tuesday to seven years in prison.
Myra Boleche Minks pleaded guilty in March to running a scheme with two co-conspirators out of a house in Loomis that involved transporting cannabis to other states including Nevada, Texas and Georgia. The weed was either stuffed in suitcases and carried on airline flights by couriers, or packaged in boxes and sent via shipping companies.
In addition to helping to run the scheme, Minks acknowledged in her plea agreement that she had impersonated government officials on numerous occasions. Once, she posed as a DEA agent to get information on two people who had been shot on a freeway in Oakland, the agreement shows. Another time, she posed as a federal prosecutor to get information on a co-conspirator who had been arrested in Georgia, the agreement says.
As part of the plea agreement, Minks agreed to turn over $40,000 in cash that investigators found at her home, along with dozens of other items including an 18-carat white-gold ring with 21 diamonds on it and handbags by Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Prada, Yves St. Lauren and others.
In a sentencing memorandum filed with the court, Minks asked for leniency, citing a difficult childhood and a history of relationships with abusive men. She said that her co-defendant in the case, Quinten Moody, was one such man and included an image of a text message she sent to friends saying, “If I ever get killed it will be because of Quinten or it was him who did it.”
The memorandum also included images it said were of Moody kicking in the door to her home, and a photo of the damaged door and jam. Ultimately, the sentence pronounced by Judge John A. Mendez was less than the 94 months, or nearly eight years in prison anticipated in her plea agreement.
Moody was sentenced in 2023 to seven years in prison for his role in the scheme, court records show.
