Before police standoff, Antelope man threatened to kill his family, sheriff says
An hours-long police standoff in Antelope ended with an arrest early Sunday morning after a man threatened to kill his wife and family and then barricaded himself inside his home, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said.
The man, believed to have access to a firearm, had also threatened to kill their dog.
During the standoff, the woman, other family members and the dog were not in the home and were safe, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The standoff with personnel from the Sheriff’s Office began around 7:30 p.m. Saturday on the 5100 block of Antler Run Place. Sheriff’s deputies surrounded the home, and the department’s SWAT team also responded.
They entered the home and determined the suspect was not inside around 1 a.m. He was then found in a neighbor’s backyard, where a sheriff’s dog “apprehended” him. The suspect was in custody around 1:15 a.m. and was treated at the hospital before being booked into the county jail.
No information was provided on whether there were any previous incidents involving the man and his family. Under California law, people can seek restraining orders against people they fear may be abusive. Domestic violence restraining orders automatically prohibit gun possession.
