A 39-year-old Sacramento man was arrested over the weekend in connection with a fatal shooting in the Del Paso Heights neighborhood, authorities said.

Guadalupe Valencia was booked Saturday into Sacramento County Main Jail on suspicion of murder after detectives identified him as the suspect in Friday’s deadly shooting, according to the Sacramento Police Department. He is being held without bail and is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in Sacramento Superior Court.

The shooting occurred around 2:45 p.m. Friday on the 900 block of Harris Avenue. Officers responding to reports of gunfire found a man with at least one gunshot wound. The victim, who was taken to a hospital, was later pronounced dead.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office had not publicly identified the victim as of Sunday.

The Police Department on Sunday credited investigative work for leading to Valencia’s arrest, though officers have not released details about what led to the shooting or how the suspect was identified.
