Two arrested after shooting in Arden Arcade following parking lot crash
A teen and a young adult were arrested Thursday evening after shortly after a car crash in Arden Arcade sparked a fight and shooting that left at least two hurt and struck a responding Metro Fire engine, said Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.
The chaotic scene began just after 5:30 p.m. in a parking lot at Fulton Avenue and Hurley Way. A car with two men, ages 35, and 25, and a 14-year-old boy was driving erratically through the parking lot when it crashed onto its side, injuring the 35-year-old, said sheriff’s officials.
The 14-year-old and the 25-year-old climbed out of the wrecked car, saw a man recording on their phone, and assaulted him, taking away the phone. The pair also assaulted a woman who was recording the incident, but were unable to take away her phone, sheriff’s officials said. Other onlookers who saw the attack on the woman began fighting with the 25-year-old man.
The 14-year-old found a handgun, sheriff’s officials said, and opened fire, wounding one person and striking a Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District fire engine. Fire personnel fled the gunfire unhurt, said Metro Fire officials.
The 14-year-old and the 25-year-old fled after the shooting. Deputies quickly arrested the teen and the 25-year-old was spotted hiding in a nearby neighborhood and arrested with the help of a police dog. The man was medically cleared at a hospital before being booked into Sacramento County Main Jail. The teen was taken into Sacramento County juvenile custody.
The 35-year-old injured in the crash remains hospitalized, with what Metro Fire officials said were critical injuries. His condition was not known Friday. Sheriff’s officials said the man will be booked into Sacramento County Main Jail on outstanding warrants once he is released from the hospital.
