Stolen vehicle crashes into car, leads West Sacramento police on chase

Police tape blocks entrance to a convenience store in San Luis Obispo County.

Pursuit of a stolen vehicle in West Sacramento Sunday caused one crash before the suspect was apprehended, a spokesperson for the West Sacramento Police Department said.

Officers responded to River City High School at approximately 1:30 p.m. for a report of a stolen vehicle, which was then located leaving the parking lot of a Target, located in Town Center Plaza. When officers attempted to pull the vehicle over, the suspect fled.

The initial pursuit lasted eight minutes before police stopped due to risk associated with a construction site and heavy traffic , the spokesperson said. During the pursuit, the suspect vehicle crashed into another vehicle at the intersection of Harbor and Industrial boulevards, though no one was injured, the spokesperson said.

Air support followed the vehicle, and the department deployed spike strips when the vehicle entered city limits again. The suspect returned to the Target parking lot and attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended at 3:22 p.m., the spokesperson said.

”The suspect is a male juvenile, known to the police department,” spokesperson Andrey Kinda said. “This is at least the third stolen vehicle pursuit involving the same repeat offender since November of last year.”
