Hit-and-run suspect severely injured by a fence in Sacramento, police say

Police tape at crime scene

A suspect in a hit-and-run was severely injured after hopping a fence Friday evening in the Lawrence Park neighborhood, according to the Sacramento Police Department.

Officers responded to a report of a person who hopped a fence into the caller’s backyard near on 49th Street and Perry Avenue around 9 p.m., Police Department spokesperson Officer Anthony Gamble said

While investigating in the area, officers heard gunshots, but authorities have not determined the source of the shots. Police set up a perimeter and located where they found a man with what initially appeared to be a gunshot injury. The man was transported to a hospital for treatment, Gamble said.

Gamble said the injured person was found to not be injured by gunfire but by the fence.

The suspect has been released from police custody due to pending medical treatment, Gamble said.
