Sacramento region saw 7 officer-involved shootings in early 2026. What to know
The Sacramento region recorded at least seven officer-involved shootings in the first three months of 2026, with the most recent occurring late last month in North Sacramento. The incidents involved multiple law enforcement agencies across several counties and left at least two suspects dead.

- The March 27 shooting happened during a CHP traffic stop near El Camino Avenue and Boxwood Street in Old North Sacramento, where officers shot and killed a man. Sacramento police recovered a handgun from the scene.
- On Jan. 29, Sacramento police fatally shot 56-year-old Andrew Anthony Baima on Exposition Boulevard near Cal Expo after he robbed a BMO bank branch and pointed what turned out to be an imitation firearm at officers during a foot pursuit.
- Sacramento County sheriff’s deputies were involved in two February shootings: one on Feb. 16 during a vehicle stop in the Vineyard neighborhood that left an armed man hospitalized, and another on Feb. 27 that killed a man who grabbed a shotgun near Galt while a deputy responded to a woman in distress.
- In Yuba City on Feb. 27, police shot 31-year-old Guillermo Figueroa twice after he allegedly fought officers with a shovel while completely nude. He was in critical condition as of the following day.
- Two El Dorado County sheriff’s deputies were shot and hospitalized on March 12 in Camino after responding to reports of gunfire aimed at a PG&E crew. The suspect was also hit and airlifted to a hospital.
- On March 10, Sacramento police shot and wounded a man armed with a kitchen knife near Hazel Strauch Elementary School after he refused commands and advanced toward officers.
