A jury on Tuesday convicted a man of sexually assaulting a foreign college student, according to the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office.

A Sacramento Superior Court jury convicted Kevin Davis of forcible rape, and allegations that he had two prior strike convictions for assault with a firearm, along with aggravating factors including a vulnerable victim and a prior prison term, were also found true, according to the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office.

Officials said the victim came to the United States from Europe to attend college on Nov. 2, 2023. She traveled alone while returning from a conference by Greyhound and Amtrak. At 2 a.m., she was dropped off at the Greyhound station on Richards Boulevard so she could go to the Amtrak station on I Street and take a train home.

“The victim was unfamiliar with Sacramento and had no working cellphone. She made her way to a gas station and asked a clerk to call her a taxi; however, it never arrived,” the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office said in a statement.

Davis offered the victim a ride to the Amtrak station, and officials said she eventually agreed and got into his car.

“Davis drove the victim to a secluded area by the river, locked her in his car, and threatened that he had had guns and would sexually assault her if she did not willingly comply with his sexual demands,” the District Attorney’s Office’s statement continued. “Davis forced the victim to perform sexual acts with him before raping her.”

Davis faces a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

Sentencing is scheduled for June 26. in Sacramento Superior Court.
