Police tape at crime scene

The Orland Police Department is investigating a drive-by shooting that occurred Saturday evening on Watts Avenue.

Officers responded to the 800 block of Watts Avenue after receiving reports of gunfire, according to police.

At the scene, officers found spent shell casings and damage to a vehicle believed to have been struck by gunfire. A nearby home was also hit by gunfire, according to officials.

Police said no victims were found, and no injuries were reported.

Based on the preliminary investigation, officials believe the shooting was an isolated incident and that there is no ongoing threat to the public.

The suspect vehicle is described as a black or dark gray Mercedes-Benz. The year and model are unknown. Police said the vehicle was last seen possibly traveling east on Newport Avenue at a high rate of speed before entering southbound Interstate 5.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact Officer Vargas with the Orland Police Department at 530-865-1616.
