Folsom Cordova Unified office lockdown lifted after Sacramento deputies found no crime

Police tape at crime scene

The district office at the Folsom Cordova Unified School District went on lockdown Friday after school officials noticed a person holding what appeared to be a rifle, but the lockdown was lifted after law enforcement found no evidence of a crime, authorities said.

Sacramento County deputies were notified around noon of a suspect walking near the district’s education services center at 1965 Birkmont Drive in Rancho Cordova carrying what appeared to be a gun, said Sgt. Amar Gandhi, a spokesperson with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies detained the person and learned he was not carrying a rifle but a pellet gun. The person did not point it at anyone, and was released by deputies after they determined there was no crime committed, Gandhi said.

The lockdown was lifted by 12:35 p.m., Folsom Cordova district spokesperson Angela Griffin Ankhelyi said.

All staff are safe, she said.
